An explosion in Beirut, Lebanon has caused widespread damage across the capital killing at least 100 people, injuring thousands, and leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless.
Human Aid UK is on the ground in Beirut working with local partners to support some of the worst-hit families with essential supplies like food, hygiene kits, masks and more.
Fifty per cent of people in Lebanon already live below the poverty line, and they have been struggling with a surge of Covid-19 infections, as well as a collapsing economy. As well as this, a large amount of food and medical supplies were held at the port and the wheat supplies have been destroyed. Lebanon’s wheat reserve is only for 20 days, meaning a food crisis is imminent.
